He is currently a Principal Research Officer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Cape Town, and runs his own gemstone company. In AEON he will continue to research African indigenous mining and metals production, the economic impact and social history of pre-colonial mining, and the effects of changing mining governance on modern small-scale miners in Africa.
